Project Specifics:
MacDougall Pierce built the first Flower Child in Indiana. The 3,500 sq ft restaurant sits in an outlot building at Nora Plaza Shopping Center, 1340 E 86th St in Indianapolis. The $1.7M project was a tenant build-out for Fox Restaurant Concepts.
Nora Plaza is a 65-year-old shopping center that Kite Realty Group purchased for $29 million in 2019 and has been redeveloping since. Flower Child occupies an outlot building shared with Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh and Bank of America, along the Monon Trail on the center’s east edge.
The storefront stands out. A lemon blossom mural covers the exterior wall. Black-and-white striped awnings shade the front windows. Green steel frames the floor-to-ceiling glass. Inside: white subway tile, wood slat ceilings, woven rattan pendant lights. The kitchen is open behind glass. Sunflower-patterned tile fronts the order counter. A covered patio with vinyl roll-down screens adds outdoor seating.
Restaurant build-outs move fast. The kitchen needs gas lines, water, grease traps, and exhaust. The dining room needs lighting, HVAC, and finishes. All of it goes into a shell that was never designed for food service. MPCI’s crew ran the full interior build, from framing through final finishes. The structure combines metal stud framing with stone veneer and glass. Field Paoli Architects provided the design.
The project was part of Fox Restaurant Concepts’ entry into the Indianapolis market. MPCI also built the company’s Culinary Dropout restaurant in Nora Plaza. The success of the Indianapolis Flower Child led to a second Indiana location in Fishers, which MPCI also delivered.
Flower Child opened in early 2025. WISH-TV covered the opening as the brand’s first Indiana location.
